Our History:

In September of 1974, the Ford City Church of Christ and the Nitrate City Church of Christ merged into the East Colbert Church of Christ and filed incorporation papers with the State of Alabama. The East Colbert Church of Christ met for the fist time in its new building one year later, September 1975.

Nitrate City Church of Christ was established in 1946 at the home of Homer Aday, in Nitrate City near Martharlar Lane and Second Street. O.M. Bogle preached from the front porch of Homer's house as people stood on the front lawn. After a few weeks, a brush arbor was constructed and in 1947, construction began on a block building and was completed except for the floor. It remained dirt for 1-2 years. Over the next 28 years, Nitrate City Church grew to over 300 members.

Ford City Church of Christ began under a huge oak tree near the north ean, east side of County Line Road, about 100 meters past Hunter Point Road. Assemblies were held in various houses in the community until a brush arbor was constructed at the present site in Ford City. The old block building was constructed in 1950, with a straw floor. The church grew to about 80 members when this congregation and the Nitrate City congregation moved into "East Colbert" in September of 1975.

Today, East Colbert is a thriving church of over 150 members and growing. The church is extremely active in the community and foreign and domestic mission work. East Colbert has a monthly fish fry that attracts 1500-2000 people. This enables East Colbert to give back to the community over $70,000 each year. From a dirt floor to a powerful force for good in North Alabama, God uses the East Colbert Church of Christ to change the world.
